The Presidency and the National Assembly have formulated strategies to provide relief to victims of the recent flood disaster in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State. Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, revealed this on Wednesday during a press briefing after meeting with Vice-President Kashim Shettima at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Abbas explained that his visit was to extend condolences to the Vice-President over the devastating flooding in Maiduguri and to discuss the challenges faced by those affected. He noted that both the Presidency and the National Assembly have devised solutions that will be implemented in the coming days to bring relief to the victims.

The Speaker expressed confidence in Borno State Governor Umara Zulum’s ability to ensure the transparent and effective distribution of the Federal Government’s ₦3 billion intervention fund to the flood victims. Abbas emphasized the governor’s reputation for transparency and stated that he had no concerns about the judicious use of the funds.

In addition to Borno, Abbas mentioned that the Federal Government has also extended palliative measures to other states affected by the flood disaster, including his home state of Kaduna. He highlighted ongoing efforts, in coordination with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and state governors, to provide assistance to flood victims in Niger and other impacted states.
