As Nigeria grapples with ongoing difficulties, Gani Abiodun Adams, the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, has issued a scathing critique of President Bola Tinubu’s administration. Adams, in an open letter, accused Tinubu of betraying the trust of Nigerians who supported his rise to power.

Adams expressed deep disappointment with the administration’s handling of the petroleum sector and the recent spike in fuel prices, which he argues has exacerbated economic hardships across the country.

Recalling Tinubu’s 2023 campaign slogan, “Emilokan,” Adams noted the initial optimism surrounding Tinubu’s leadership. However, he lamented that the President has failed to live up to those expectations, highlighting a dramatic increase in the price of petrol, which has surged from less than ₦200 per litre to over ₦1000 since Tinubu assumed office.

Adams criticized the President for the perceived indifference and insensitivity of his administration towards the economic struggles faced by Nigerians. He also pointed out the broader economic issues, including the depreciation of the Naira, which has plummeted from less than ₦740 to over ₦1,600 to the Dollar since May 2023.

Questioning the competence of Tinubu’s economic advisers, Adams challenged the effectiveness of Finance Minister Wale Edun and Central Bank Governor Yemi Cardoso, both of whom have a history with Tinubu from his tenure as Lagos State Governor.

Adams also raised concerns about the worsening security situation in Nigeria, criticizing the administration for failing to address increasing abductions and violence.

In a particularly sharp critique, Adams drew a comparison between Tinubu’s governance and Adolf Hitler’s dictatorship, suggesting a troubling shift towards authoritarianism in Nigeria.

He concluded his letter with a stark warning for Tinubu to reverse the current course before it is too late, reflecting the growing frustration among Nigerians.
