The Police Command in Edo State has pledged to implement rigorous security measures to ensure the success of the upcoming governorship election on September 21.

Commissioner of Police Nemi Iwo, in a statement issued on Wednesday by the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Moses Yamu, assured the public of the command’s dedication to fostering a peaceful election environment. The police have been working in collaboration with other security agencies, civil society organizations, youth groups, and political stakeholders.

Iwo called on political parties and their supporters to refrain from violence, announcing that the command has begun a sweep to remove illegal arms from non-state actors throughout the state. This initiative aims to ensure that citizens can exercise their voting rights without fear or intimidation.

“This action will ensure that citizens can vote without any fear of threats, harassment, or intimidation,” Iwo stated.

He also warned that any form of lawlessness before, during, or after the election will be met with firm resistance from the Edo State Police Command.

The police command remains committed to reducing crime and protecting the lives and property of the state’s residents.
