The Super Eagles, under Austin Eguavoen, were held to a frustrating 0-0 draw by Rwanda, failing to build on their impressive 3-0 win over Benin Republic.

EAGUAVOEN’S MEN FALL SHORT IN KIGALI

Following their convincing victory against Benin Republic in Uyo, the Super Eagles traveled to Kigali for their second AFCON qualifying match. Despite showing flashes of individual brilliance, Eguavoen’s side struggled to break down a well-organized Rwandan defense.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS

In the opening exchanges, both teams tested each other out, with Nigeria eventually gaining control of possession. They came close to scoring when Ademola Lookman made a surging run through the Rwandan defense, but his effort went unrewarded. Nigeria’s hopes were dashed when Lookman’s 22nd-minute goal was ruled out for offside.

The match lacked excitement for a significant period, with the highlight being a physical altercation between Samuel Chukwueze and Claude Niyomugabo, resulting in yellow cards for both players. Victor Boniface, who had been quiet for most of the game, had a chance in the 36th minute, but his powerful shot hit the post. Lookman’s follow-up header was easily dealt with by the Rwandan defense.

LOOKMAN LEADS ATTACK AS OSIMHEN BENCHED

Despite having key opportunities, the Super Eagles were unable to capitalize, with Lookman leading the attack in Victor Osimhen’s absence. The match ended with Nigeria unable to convert their chances, leaving them with a disappointing draw.
