BONIFACE’S PLAYFUL REQUEST TO AWONIYI AS SUPER EAGLES ARRIVE IN KIGALI FOR AFCON QUALIFIER

Victor Boniface and Taiwo Awoniyi continued their endearing camaraderie off the pitch following Nigeria’s 3-0 victory over Benin Republic.

During the match at Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Ademola Lookman opened the scoring for Nigeria with a goal in extra time of the first half, dribbling past three defenders. Victor Osimhen doubled Nigeria’s lead in the 78th minute by converting a cross from Wilfred Ndidi, and Lookman completed his brace with a header from Moses Simon in the 83rd minute.

As the Super Eagles traveled to Kigali for their upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier, Boniface humorously asked Awoniyi to “borrow him 100 pounds.” Given the current exchange rate, this amounts to approximately 210,467 Nigerian Naira.

Boniface, who admired Awoniyi’s performance in the 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup final where Awoniyi scored four goals, reminisced, “I watched you play in the U-17 World Cup final. I was supposed to buy Maggi, but I ended up watching you instead. Please, give me 100 pounds if you have money.”
