NIGER GOVERNOR DESCRIBES TANKER EXPLOSION AS DEVASTATING

Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago of Niger State has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic petrol tanker explosion that claimed the lives of 48 people in Essa village, Katcha Local Government Area. The explosion, which occurred early on September 9, 2024, along the Bida-Agaie-Lapai highway, also resulted in significant destruction, including burnt cattle, damaged vehicles, and destroyed property.

In a statement, Bago described the incident as “painful, unfortunate, and devastating,” highlighting the extensive loss and sorrow experienced by the community. He extended his condolences to the families affected and confirmed that the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) and other relevant agencies have been mobilized for rescue operations.

The Governor also urged road users to exercise caution and adhere to road traffic regulations to prevent such tragedies in the future. He offered prayers for the families of the victims and wished a swift recovery to those injured.
