The Super Eagles training camp in Uyo has faced backlash after fans condemned the poor conditions depicted in a recent social media video.

CAMP OPENING AND PREPARATIONS

The camp officially commenced on Monday as Nigeria gears up for critical Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 qualifiers against the Benin Republic and Rwanda.

The Super Eagles opened their campaign with 7 confirmed players and had 20 players training on Tuesday. The squad is preparing for their first match against Benin at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo before traveling to Kigali for their fixture against Rwanda.

FAN OUTRAGE OVER CAMP CONDITIONS

The video, which showed players stretching on mats placed on hard concrete, sparked significant discontent among fans. Many expressed concerns over the potential risk of injuries and the perceived lack of professionalism in the training environment.

Criticism was directed towards the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), with some fans suggesting that such conditions might be a factor in why some talented players with dual nationality opt to represent other countries instead of Nigeria.

IMPACT ON UPCOMING MATCHES

As Nigeria prepares to face Benin on September 10th, fans are hopeful that the substandard training facilities won’t hinder the Super Eagles’ performance and that the team will secure a positive result despite the criticism surrounding their preparation conditions.
