The Plateau Youth and Community Volunteers group has urged President Bola Tinubu to appoint an indigenous Plateau person to fill the state’s vacant ministerial position. This request follows the resignation of Senator Simon Lalong, who previously served as the Minister of Labour and Productivity before joining the Senate.

In a statement released on Wednesday in Jos, the group’s Executive Director, Nanven Mamdam, highlighted the importance of Plateau’s representation in the Federal Executive Council (FEC). He emphasized that the Nigerian Constitution mandates every state to have a representative in the FEC, citing Section 147, Sub-section 3, which requires each state to have a federal minister.

Mamdam expressed concern over the eight-month vacancy left by Lalong’s departure, noting that Plateau plays a significant role in the nation’s political landscape, especially in contributing to the success of the current administration. He called on President Tinubu to urgently address the situation by appointing a Plateau native to the cabinet.
