The Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused the state government of inflating a fertiliser contract worth ₦38.5 billion, alleging corruption in the deal.

The APC, through its Publicity Secretary, Yusuf Idris Gusau, claims that the government purchased 75 trailer loads of fertiliser at an inflated rate of ₦855,000 per bag. The party further alleges that the supplying company, Zam Agro Chemicals, is owned by Governor Dauda Lawal, raising suspicions of self-enrichment.

Gusau pointed out that this company was awarded a similar contract in 2020 but failed to deliver, yet it has been given another lucrative contract. The APC also noted discrepancies in the number of trailers purchased, with the governor claiming 135 trailers and the PDP mentioning 145 trailers.

The APC has called for transparency, demanding that the government clarify the actual number of trailers and the true cost of the fertiliser. Gusau criticized Governor Lawal’s silence, especially considering his company’s involvement, and demanded that the excess funds be refunded to the state treasury.

The party has urged anti-corruption agencies to investigate the fertiliser deal and hold those responsible accountable, insisting that the people of Zamfara deserve better governance.

At the time of this report, multiple attempts to reach the governor’s spokesperson for comment were unsuccessful.
