Toyosi Etim-Effiong has sparked a debate about church attire by urging women to dress modestly when attending services. On August 25, 2024, Toyosi used Instagram to emphasize the importance of dressing appropriately for the sacred setting of a church.

She wrote, “My gender, please, let’s dress differently to church. The cloth for Zaza is not the cloth for the church. Church is supposed to be a holy ground. A place where you’re GUARANTEED to meet with GOD – your creator, the King that earthly kings bow to, the One your bosses acknowledge as the ALMIGHTY!”

Toyosi questioned why people might show more respect through their attire for worldly figures than for God, asking if church is about God or something else.

The post received mixed reactions. Some users agreed with her call for modesty, while others criticized her for being judgmental. One critic argued, “Who made you the fashion police of churchgoers? The most important thing is attending church, not being judged based on attire.”

Conversely, another user supported Toyosi’s stance, advocating for modesty as a universal practice, and criticized those who dress indecently even in church.
