The Centre for Management Development (CMD) has issued a warning that individuals operating consulting training services without proper accreditation risk facing six months imprisonment, a fine of ₦250,000, or both. This was disclosed by the acting Director-General of CMD, Mrs. Modinat Olusoji, in an interview in Abuja.
Olusoji also noted that unaccredited corporate entities engaged in management development training could face a fine of ₦1 million. The enforcement of these sanctions is empowered by the newly amended Establishment Act of the Centre, which was originally established alongside the Nigerian Council for Management Development (NCMD) in 1973. This Act was amended in 2022 to include statutory provisions for sanctioning unaccredited trainers and firms.
The CMD has initiated a campaign to sensitize stakeholders about these developments. Olusoji emphasized the importance of standardization in management training and encouraged stakeholders to ensure that only accredited trainers and management consultants are patronized.
The CMD has made it easier for the public to verify the accreditation status of firms by providing access to accreditation information on its website. The center aims to enhance human capacity development and improve performance and productivity across all sectors of the economy.
