Senator Yari Provides Relief After Devastating Floods in Zamfara

Senator Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar, representing Zamfara West, has stepped in to assist the victims of recent severe flooding in Gummi Local Government Area of Zamfara State. The floods, caused by over 14 hours of heavy rainfall, have resulted in significant devastation:

  • Casualties and Displacement: The flooding has claimed at least 12 lives and displaced 1,926 people in Gummi town alone. In total, 2,689 households across Gummi have been affected.
  • Damage: The flood destroyed 2,795 homes in towns such as Gayari, Falale, and Gummi, and also submerged extensive farmland.
  • Relief Efforts: Senator Yari has donated 15 trucks of essential supplies, including rice, millet, maize, 5,000 mattresses, and 10,000 blankets. These items are intended to help families who have lost their homes and livelihoods.
  • Assessment and Rebuilding: During his visit to the Emir of Gummi, His Royal Highness Justice Lawal Hassan (Rtd.), Yari announced the formation of an assessment committee. This committee will evaluate the damage and identify the root causes of the flooding to prevent future disasters. Yari emphasized that the rebuilding process will use modern materials and qualified engineers to ensure durability and resilience.

The Emir of Gummi expressed gratitude for Yari’s swift and compassionate response and encouraged the community to cooperate with the assessment committee to facilitate accurate damage evaluation and effective reconstruction.
