The Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service (KADIRS) has sealed four hotels in Kafanchan, Jama’ah Local Government Area due to ₦16.8 million in unpaid taxes.

Chairman of KADIRS, Jerry Adams, announced the action during a briefing in Kaduna. The operation, conducted on Wednesday, involved sealing Kyus Hotel, Sunshine Lodge, Bayan Hotel, and Cloud-9 Lounge for alleged tax defaults.

Adams explained that the closures were executed under the authority of Section 104 (1) and (4) of the Personal Income Tax Act 2011 and Section 37 (3) and (4) of the Kaduna State Tax Codification and Consolidation Law, 2020. A court order was obtained to facilitate the immediate closure and takeover of the properties until the outstanding taxes are paid.

Before this enforcement, KADIRS had issued assessments and provided opportunities for objections and payment. Adams emphasized the necessity of tax compliance to support state infrastructure, noting the governor’s efforts in advancing projects despite the state’s substantial debt.

He urged taxpayers to comply voluntarily, stating that KADIRS would continue monitoring major cities for adherence. Adams reassured that the service is sensitive to the economic challenges faced by individuals and remains committed to enforcing tax laws for the state’s benefit.
