Netflix has announced the premiere of Lisabi: The Uprising on September 27, 2024, with its sequel, Lisabi: A Legend is Born, scheduled for January 2025. This highly anticipated two-part film promises to be a significant addition to Nollywood’s epic filmography.

The drama, set in the 18th-century Oyo Empire, centers on the legendary Yoruba hero Lisabi. As an Egba farmer, Lisabi leads a rebellion against the oppressive Oyo Empire, using his unique abilities and rallying fellow farmers. His resistance results in the defeat of over 6,000 Oyo soldiers, achieving Egba’s independence after centuries of subjugation.

Lisabi joins Netflix’s Yoruba-language lineup, which includes titles such as Femi Adebayo’s Jagun Jagun, Kunle Afolayan’s Anikulapo: The Rise of The Spectre, and Bolanle Austen-Peters’ House of Ga’a. This collaboration between Al Notions Studios and Anthill Studios is written by Niyi Akinmolayan and Yinka Olaoye, and directed by Niyi Akinmolayan.

Featuring a star-studded cast, including Femi Adebayo, Odunlade Adekola, Ibrahim Itele Yekini, Ibrahim Chattah, Mo Bimpe, Eniola Ajao, Liquorose Afije, and Lateef Adedimeji, the film is executive produced by Lateef Adedimeji and directed by Niyi Akinmolayan.
