Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi (Sim) Fubara, has announced plans to revive the ‘Neighbourhood Watch’, a community-based security initiative established by the state government under the previous administration. This move aims to enhance efforts in combating oil theft within local communities.

Governor Fubara recently held a closed-door meeting with leaders of the Rivers Neighbourhood Watch in Port Harcourt. The Head of Command, Wogbo Lawrence, expressed satisfaction with the governor’s assurances. Lawrence noted that, despite limited support, the security outfit has managed to maintain about 1,150 personnel, with around 50 officers deployed in each of the 23 Local Government Areas of the state.

Lawrence highlighted that the group has been operating without government funding and is eager for the revival of the agency. He promised that, with the governor’s support, they will significantly strengthen their efforts against oil theft and other security challenges in the region.
