Nigerian superstar Flavour has emphasized the importance of promoting African music in its entirety, not just focusing on Afrobeats. In a recent interview on The Afrobeats Podcast with Adesope, Flavour clarified that he does not consider himself an Afrobeats artist but rather an African artist.

“I am not an Afrobeats artist. I am an African artist,” Flavour stated, highlighting his dissatisfaction with the media’s narrow focus on Afrobeats. He argued that the broader spectrum of African music, which includes various cultural and musical elements beyond Afrobeats, deserves recognition.

Flavour, known for his fusion of cultural elements in his music, pointed out that while Afrobeats has gained international attention, other genres and artists across the continent also contribute significantly to the rich tapestry of African music. He mentioned his recent album, African Royalty, and his collaborations with artists like Fally Ipupa and Diamond Platnumz as examples of his commitment to showcasing diverse African musical traditions.

The veteran musician also drew attention to other influential African artists, such as Asake, who blend traditional genres like Fuji with modern sounds, underscoring the diverse musical landscape of Africa.

Flavour’s comments reflect a broader call for inclusivity in how African music is celebrated and promoted on the global stage.
