The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has seized a large consignment of codeine-based syrup valued at ₦6.2 billion at the Port Harcourt Ports Complex in Onne, Rivers State. The operation, which took place on August 14 and 15 in partnership with the Nigeria Customs and other port stakeholders, resulted in the confiscation of 892,400 bottles of the opioid, packed in 5,337 cartons and shipped from India.

Alongside this significant bust, the NDLEA also conducted several successful operations nationwide. These included the destruction of 21,800kg of cannabis sativa on 20 hectares of farmland in Ise-Ekiti, the arrest of individuals with large quantities of tramadol and pentazocine injections, and the discovery of a cannabis plantation in Ogun State. These actions underscore the NDLEA’s continued commitment to combating drug trafficking and abuse across Nigeria.
