The Bauchi State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has confirmed that four people have lost their lives in a recent flood disaster that has left thousands homeless. The flood, caused by torrential rains, has severely impacted the Shira, Giade, and Katagum Local Government Areas.

In addition to the tragic loss of life, the flood has destroyed houses, submerged farmlands, and caused significant damage to infrastructure, including sections of the Kano-Maiduguri expressway. This critical roadway, which links Kano, Jigawa, Bauchi, Borno, and Yobe in the North-East, has been disrupted, affecting the movement of goods and services in the region.

Masud Aliyu, the Director-General of SEMA, reported that the state government has mobilized contractors to repair the damaged sections of the road to provide alternative routes for road users. He also urged residents to heed the warnings from the Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NiMet) regarding potential flood risks.

The ongoing recovery efforts highlight the urgency of addressing the widespread damage and preventing further loss of life.
