Healthcare Group Urges Ebonyi Government to Allocate Funds for ISS in 2025 Budget.
The Life Transformation for Africa initiative has urged the Ebonyi State government to allocate funds for Integrated Supportive Supervision (ISS) in the 2025 budget. The group argues that the absence of a dedicated budget line for ISS limits the state’s ability to enhance healthcare quality and effectively utilize private sector resources.
In a statement on Saturday in Abakaliki, Mr. Chimezie Ezeani, Programme Manager of the initiative, highlighted that ISS is a key component of a USAID-funded project running from October 2020 to October 2025, in partnership with Nigeria Resource Partners (NRPs). Ezeani stressed that integrating ISS into the state’s budget would ensure timely and effective supervision of healthcare centers across Ebonyi.
“Integrated Supportive Supervision (ISS) plays a critical role in improving healthcare quality by providing oversight and facilitating skills and knowledge transfer to healthcare providers,” Ezeani explained. “It has been shown to enhance the performance of healthcare workers, promote effective communication, foster team building, and solve problems efficiently.”
Ezeani also noted that the current structure for ISS is inadequate and relies heavily on donor funding, which is often unsustainable. He emphasized the need for domestic financing to support ISS and reduce dependency on external sources, which could undermine the continuity and effectiveness of healthcare programs.
By incorporating ISS into the 2025 budget, the state would strengthen its healthcare system, improve service delivery, and better support healthcare workers, ultimately benefiting the entire population.
