Flooding Strands Motorists on Kano-Maiduguri Highway

The federal highway linking Kano to Maiduguri has been critically affected by severe flooding, particularly between Malori and Guskuri villages in the Katagum Local Government Area of Bauchi State. The torrential rains have caused the road to split into two sections, leaving many motorists stranded and disrupting travel between Nigeria’s Northwest and Northeast regions.

Bauchi State Governor Bala Muhammed, who visited the site to assess the damage, highlighted the critical role of this highway as a major transportation artery. In his address to the media on Thursday, Governor Muhammed stressed the urgency of the situation, noting that the dual carriageways have been completely washed away by the floodwaters.

The governor called on the Federal Government to provide immediate assistance to repair the damaged road. He expressed concern over the road’s deteriorating condition and the impact on regional connectivity and transportation. Governor Muhammed mentioned that the state government plans to report the issue to Abuja through the Controller of Works.

He also indicated that if the Federal Government fails to address the problem promptly, the state government would consider taking remedial or permanent measures, similar to those implemented during the previous rainy season. The governor’s call for action underscores the need for a coordinated response to ensure the road’s restoration and prevent further disruption to the vital transportation link.
