PDP Withdraws from Kebbi LG Elections, Citing Bias and Administrative Irregularities

The Kebbi State Chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has officially withdrawn from the upcoming local government council elections scheduled for August 31.

In a press briefing in Birnin Kebbi, the party’s Chairman, Alhaji Bello Usman-Suru, cited several reasons for the boycott. He criticized the State Independent Electoral Commission (SIECOM), alleging that its chairman and commissioners are affiliated with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), which he argues undermines the fairness and credibility of the electoral process.

Usman-Suru also raised concerns about recent changes to election guidelines, specifically the abrupt shift in deadlines for administrative fees, which he claims disenfranchises candidates and violates democratic principles.

The PDP’s decision reflects deep dissatisfaction with the current electoral management and highlights a call for reforms, including a potential shift of LG election management to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The party urges its members to stay focused and calm as they navigate this political challenge.
