How we’re being scammed for boat rides in Lagos State – Singer BNXN

< 1 mn read

Nigerian singer and entertainer BNXN, formerly known as Buju, has opened up about how he feels artists are being scammed for boat rides in Lagos State. During a recent episode of *Backstage Banter*, hosted by Isi Ijewere in Canada, BNXN shared his frustrations regarding the exorbitant fees charged for boat rides.

BNXN highlighted that they are often charged ₦350,000 for a 21-seater boat, which he claimed cannot actually fit 21 people comfortably. He expressed his belief that this is a form of exploitation targeted at artists, who are quoted prices ranging from ₦340,000 to ₦400,000 to book a boat. Despite sometimes getting massive boats, the capacity and safety standards are often questionable.

He further criticized the safety standards of some boats, noting that while some people pay expensive fees, others might use less reliable options, including boats without life jackets. He mentioned that some individuals use the Ikorodu speedboat for as little as ₦200 to ₦500 without life jackets, which he found alarming.

When asked about how Burna Boy has inspired his craft, BNXN highlighted Burna Boy’s personality, contrasting the public’s perception with his personal experiences. He discovered Burna Boy in 2013/14 and felt that his music was ahead of its time, a sentiment that was later validated as Burna Boy’s career skyrocketed. BNXN admires Burna Boy for his legendary status and musical talent, as well as the contrast between his public persona and his character when he knows someone personally.

BNXN concluded by expressing his respect for Burna Boy, noting that while some people might have preconceived notions about him, his personal interactions revealed a different, more approachable side.
