The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has issued a warning to parents and guardians to dissuade their children and wards from participating in a planned protest organized by a “shadowy group” against its operations. EFCC Spokesperson Dele Oyewale highlighted that the group has been actively recruiting young Nigerians, including students, through social media to resist the commission’s activities, particularly those related to cybercrime.

Oyewale stated that while the EFCC is not opposed to protests by citizens, it is concerned about the group’s intent to disrupt the commission’s efforts. There is emerging evidence suggesting that corrupt individuals under investigation or prosecution are behind the protest, aiming to incite a national uprising that could jeopardize the country’s peace and security.

The EFCC, in collaboration with other security agencies, is preparing to address any potential threats to national security. The commission appeals to parents, guardians, and heads of educational institutions to ensure that their wards are not exploited as part of a campaign against the EFCC by corrupt interests.

The EFCC emphasized that its ongoing battle against corruption and cybercrime is essential for protecting the future of Nigeria’s youth. The commission warned that if Nigeria’s global reputation continues to decline due to fraud, it will imperil the nation’s future.
