Rema has achieved a groundbreaking milestone in the music industry as his song ‘Calm Down’ surpassed 2 billion streams on Spotify, making it the first song by an African artist to achieve this feat on the platform. This achievement underscores Rema’s significant impact in globalizing Afrobeats through his music. The song achieved this milestone through both its original version, which surpassed 590 million streams, and the remix featuring Selena Gomez, which crossed 1.41 billion streams.

Previously, in 2023, ‘Calm Down’ became the first Afrobeats single to surpass 1 billion streams on Spotify, marking a historic moment for Nigerian and African music. The song has also set several other records, including reaching the highest peak (#3) for a Nigerian artist on the Billboard Hot 100 and being the longest-charting song (over 52 weeks) by a Nigerian artist on the chart.

Rema continues to build on his success with recent releases like ‘Benin Boys,’ a collaboration with Shallipopi, which debuted at No. 1 on the TurnTable Top 100 chart, further solidifying his position as a leading figure in the music industry.
