The Peter Obi Media Team has debunked reports claiming that Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s Presidential Candidate in the 2023 general election, endorsed the party’s National Chairman, Comrade Julius Abure. The media team clarified that Obi’s visit to the party’s National Headquarters and his meeting with Abure on Tuesday were part of efforts to reconcile feuding leaders.

According to a statement by Obi’s Chief Spokesman, Dr. Tanko Yunusa, in Abuja on Wednesday, the former Anambra governor also visited the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) as part of his reconciliation efforts.

Yunusa explained that Obi’s aim was to foster unity within the party and not to endorse any individual.

He said, “Obi has consistently maintained that his goal is to bring everyone together into one strong family and not to support any specific interest.

“The visit was part of Obi’s ongoing consultations in search of peace within the party.

“In line with this, he also met with the political arm of the NLC and the TUC on Wednesday to continue his quest for peace within the party.

“At his meeting with the workers’ unions, the leadership of the NLC/TUC political commission, led by Comrade Titus Amba and Comrade Chris Uyot, expressed their willingness to support peace efforts within the party.

“During the meeting, Obi emphasized the importance of reconciling various factions in a peaceful atmosphere to create a united and inclusive party.

“He thanked the leadership of the political commission for their understanding and expressed hope for a productive working relationship soon.

“Obi also plans to meet with other key stakeholders, including the Obidients, to foster an all-inclusive political family with a shared vision of rescuing Nigeria.”
