“The Nigerian Army has issued a strong condemnation of the attack on its personnel at Banex Plaza, Abuja, over the weekend. Maj-Gen Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director of Army Public Relations, conveyed this stance in a statement released on Tuesday in Abuja.

Following the assault on soldiers, the Nigerian Army took swift action, collaborating with policemen on internal security duties to rescue the attacked personnel from being lynched by the assailants. Nwachukwu emphasized that the soldiers were unarmed, non-aggressive, and posed no threat to anyone, making the violence against them unjustifiable.

In response to the incident, a meeting was held with the management of Banex Plaza to identify and apprehend the perpetrators, leading to the temporary shutdown of activities in the plaza. This measure aimed to ensure that those who have been using the Banex neighborhood as a base to pose security threats are apprehended.

The army spokesperson stressed the importance of conducting a thorough investigation to understand the immediate and underlying causes of the attack. Such investigations are crucial for maintaining security in the Federal Capital Territory and preventing similar incidents in the future.

Nwachukwu underscored that violence against security personnel is reprehensible and could escalate into a broader breakdown of law and order, endangering national security. He urged the public to exercise caution and report grievances or misconduct by personnel through established channels, rather than resorting to violence.”
