The Federal Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, in collaboration with the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG), will host the 30th edition of the Nigerian Economic Summit (NES-30) from October 14-16, 2024. The summit is themed “Collaborative Action for Growth, Competitiveness, and Stability” and aims to tackle the current economic challenges facing Nigeria and create a pathway to stability.
Senator Abubakar Bagudu, Minister of Budget and National Planning, stated that the theme was chosen to address priorities for stabilizing the economy and positioning Nigeria on a regional and global stage. The discussions will focus on enhancing product complexity and competitiveness, and driving transformation through institutions, investment, integration, industry, and innovation.
The summit will feature discussions around five sub-themes:
- Fostering Inclusive Development
- Unleashing Business Dynamism
- Building a More Secure Society
- Igniting Innovation and Digital Evolution
- Promoting Stakeholder Collaboration
Bagudu emphasized that the summit would engage stakeholders in discussions aimed at placing Nigeria on a path of sustained growth, competitiveness, and stability, while leveraging the country’s demographic dividend. Key objectives include setting an economic policy agenda for growth, deliberating on transformative political leadership and governance, enhancing human capital, addressing growth impediments, and articulating economic priorities for 2024 and beyond.
NESG Chairman, Mr. Niyi Yusuf, highlighted the need for a “business-unusual” approach and emphasized the importance of innovative governance and transformational leadership. He stressed that collaborative action between government, business, and civil society is essential to unlocking Nigeria’s vast potential.
