At the 2024 VMAs, several artists including Taylor Swift, Eminem, Anitta, and Billie Eilish made headlines by setting new records across various categories.
OVERALL AWARDS WON
- Taylor Swift: Swift shattered Beyoncé’s record for the most VMAs ever won, securing her 30th competitive VMA as a solo artist. Beyoncé previously held the record with 25 competitive VMAs. Swift also set a new record for the most Video of the Year trophies, winning for ‘Fortnight’ and becoming the first artist to win this award three consecutive years. Additionally, she tied Beyoncé for the most Collaboration of the Year awards with 3 trophies and matched Britney Spears’ record for the most Best Pop VMAs with three wins. Swift also became the first artist to win Artist of the Year twice and the only artist to win in the Best Direction category four times.
- Eminem: Eminem broke his tie with Peter Gabriel for the most VMAs won by a male solo artist, reaching 15 wins with two additional awards in 2024. He also extended his record as the most-awarded rapper at the VMAs and tied Drake for the most Best Hip-Hop awards with three trophies.
- SZA: SZA tied the record for the most Best R&B Video awards with her win for ‘Snooze’, matching her previous win for ‘Shirt’.
- Lisa: Lisa became the first solo artist to win twice in the Best K-Pop category, taking home her second trophy for ‘Rockstar’.
- Anitta: Anitta tied J Balvin’s record for the most wins in the Best Latin category and broke her tie with Rosalía for the most wins by a female artist, securing her third consecutive win with ‘Mil Veces’.
- Billie Eilish: Eilish tied John Legend and Big Sean for the most Video for Good awards and became the first female artist to win twice in this category with ‘What Was I Made For’.
